The Nebraska Legislature is in full swing. Listed below are some bills of high importance with instructions on how to act right now:

Winner Take All

LB3 advanced out of Committee and is now on the Floor of the Legislature for debate. Contact YOUR State Senator and encourage them to vote against LB3. LB3 reinstates the winner-take-all system for electing presidential and vice-presidential candidates, awarding all electoral votes to the candidate who receives the highest number of votes in the state. We want our current split-electoral system to remain in place so our vote counts!

The following bills are in Committee. If you want to comment on any of these bills, please visit this link. Here are a few bills you may be interested in:

School Voucher Bills

LB624 would provide $10 million annually during the upcoming biennium to the State Treasure in order to provide education scholarships to low-income and at risk K-12 students to attend an approved or accredited non-public school of their choice.

LB427 would provide eligibility for students enrolled in approved or accredited public, private, denominational, or parochial schools to receive $1500 per school year in an educational savings account.

LB131 would conform Nebraska to the federal changes regarding “529 Plans” under the College Savings Plan Program. The federal changes allow for contributions to a plan to be used to pay tuition at an elementary or secondary school of choice.

Paid Sick Leave Exception

LB698 amends the Nebraska Healthy Families and Workplace Act to remove temporary or seasonal agricultural workers and youth under 16 years of age from the definition of employee, to exempt employers with 10 or fewer employees from the Act, and to provide the Department of Labor as the sole enforcer of the Act, rather than through private actions.
